Short Orders

What looks like small boats and feels like a well-deserved foot massage? It’s the hip thing in footwear: clogs by Crocs (about $30). Made of light, flexible material, neither rubber nor plastic, these shoes repel liquids headed their way, ventilate hard working feet with holes dotted across the top and sides, and soothe the soles with a gently bumpy foot bed. They come in an array of bright colors, including butter, sage, lime, chocolate, and coral (similar to an orange clog that celebrity chef Mario Batali wears). Slip these on and if you happen to step in a lump of pie dough or drop a dollop of mashed potatoes on your toe, wipe your shoes or rinse them clean. This odor-resistant, antimicrobial foot wear will take whatever you throw at it, but, alas, not the dishwasher. Tia Williams-Mattson of the Colorado-based company says that dish washers are not recommended. But you can sterilize these durable shoes in a bucket of warm water and bleach. On Christmas morning, they’ll be out of the stocking and on someone’s feet just in time to roast the meat.
